Sunflowers and other plants...
Here are some photographs of flowers (wild mostly) and our Sunflowers etc in our garden and the garden transformation so far since last september.
Well yes these are all weeds in fact but still i was practising taking photos using the 'macro' function on my new camera and what is best but natural, wild flowers growing!
Next doors cat, Angel, seems to like munching on our grass anyways!
Here are some updated photos of our sunflowers,
The palm trees (as other items in the garden) are kept watered and seem to be doing fine i.e. not dead basically which is an achievement for us so here is a macro detailed picture of the palm tree leaves....
If you take a look at this picture you can see EJ watering the plants for me, the slabs are the old ones but since this photo was taken on Wednesday the 21st May, we have since laid really nice 'Rosemont' slabs, I will take a photo of these later so you can see the difference...
you can see part of the colouring on this picture, where the spade is laid down on the ground. This was taken near to the back window so the stones have mostly disappearred of what you can see to your right. Phil is now in the process of getting the patio grouted so there are no gaps etc.

Patio is coming along nicely...
The patio is, I would say, about 90% finished!
this link to the picture of the patio preperation on 5th June shows only a third finished, Phil working the weeds and EJ helping!
We have mowed the garden twice since buying the new lawn mower (Phil first then Dec and I took turns on Sunday - gone - to give it a good trim), the shed has now been painted as Phil started on the same Sunday (fathers day) and on Monday afternoon this week, when the sun came out late afternoon, I got the brush out and finished the painting of the shed, on the side nearer the fence, so thats that done for the year.

the biggest palm
The sunflowers are behind these and look a bit caterpillar eaten but other than that they look like they are about to flower, they had a good watering last night though.
If there isnt any natural rain water to water them with then we get the hose pipe out on them.

pansies hanging 1 - 23rd April
Here is the 1st of 2 hanging baskets on our fence! , in contrast to Janes pots next door, its like a gardening contest :) (you should have seen everybody look surprised when she and I told her friends at Kaitlyns birthday party, that she - Jane - had planted the pots herself, she must have excelled herself as they looked very very surprised lol)
Mum and dad haven't seen our hanging baskets yet either so they will be surprised on Thursday too (sure mum will find something to be critical about, she always does)

Proud about her garden!

and here is our little girl, Emily-Jane, Happy with her evergrowing sunflower collection (about 10 or 11 in total and we haven't remeasured them!)

Our little sunflowers were repotted into this yellow pot on Sunday! Kept in the shed between Sunday and today (Tuesday) then i've bought them inside again.

Here are our hardy little canary island palms, happily sitting outside no matter what the weather and still living!

I repotted the Sun...
They are in a nice yellow pot in the shed, I just need to remember to water them everyday! I think I may carry them upstairs to the En Suite til the weathers a bit dryer and more on the sunny side as they will be a tad cold!
Our palm trees seem to be thriving our strange mixed up weather, however, they don't seem to have grown that much!

Taking a beating!
The suns out now, the sunflowers still in their pots in the kitchen and measuring 16centimetres! They really do need repotting into bigger pots but I'm not heading out in that weather just yet, its too freezing and not gardening weather as far as im concerned!!!

another cm or two
The palms look to be growing, when I sit on the sofa, facing the lounge window I can see the tops of the leaves of the larger Palm tree so that's a bonus, maybe in a few weeks they will be a few inches over the window ledge?

how tall?
Tuesday, 18 March 2008
oo just a little bit taller
11 half centimetres tall! Tomorrow, we will measure the palm trees from soil to the top of the tallest leaves on both plants to see if they are growing and by how much probably per week.
here's the sun flowers

Bit blurred i know but anyway!

Gardening Advice from Friends
Mum and dad sounded surprised at the knowledge of us buying palm trees, they are "hardy" palm trees so can withstand harsh weather!
I've asked friends about gardening... Claire wanted to know what kind of palm trees i.e. hardy or ones that should be in conservatories/greenhouses during winter and Emma prefers to be overwhelmed with the height of weeds in her garden *chuckle*.
I really want to get two hand woven hanging baskets for our wall, the ones ive seen are cone shaped with a tall flattish back and they look very rustic and different, be great for putting our pansies in!
Sunflower update... they seem to be slightly taller still today!
Palm Trees are looking taller (apparently they did yesterday but i think Phil's crackers and just has wishful thinking)
Claires link and advice... (cheers hun)BBC Canary Island Palm Advice
Emma wishes us good luck! think we're gonna need it girls!

Palm Trees 'n' Sunflowers
This is a teeny tiny blog that will grow as big as the palm trees (with any luck)!
Here are a few pictures from September 07 to the present day to show how the garden was and has so far been transformed!
To begin with the garden was all soily and weedy and we had, and do have plans to change it to look like a lovely garden!!!

so this is how it looked before we moved in and the turf was laid!
Here is a picture of EJ in our lounge before we moved in! Empty room! gosh it seems ages since it looked that empty!

Here is the garden with turf after Phil had freshly laid it down, how lush does that look?!!!
and here with the visible reddish fence put up inbetween ourselves and number 12!

hey up! some bloke in blue overalls is hiding in amongst some wood!
oh its OK! It's granddad erecting our new shed! (bless him, he has mithered and been waiting to do this job for like ever!)

This is the sheds first proper appearance including some snow!

And this is the definite covering of our garden and shed!

The sunflowers have started off as a few seeds in a couple of pot noodle cups which EJ and myself planted over a week ago!
EJ had fun filling the pots and popping in some sunflower seeds, I didn't realise how many seeds she and I have actually planted until they have now grown to at least 10centimetres already [16th march '08] each and this is how they look now...
Wow! healthy little sunflowers and there are 7 in the far left pot and 3 in the nearer right pot!
After a gardening exploration to Bridgemere on Saturday [15th March '08], we bought a colourful pot for our sunflowers and 2 rustic terracotta pots for our palm trees, a variation of colourful heather plants and a variation of colourful pansies.
here are our palm trees!

The patio paving stones have been chosen from DWR up the road from us, they will go where the terracotta pots are as seen in this photo with the palm trees.
I will keep posting pics as i can to show you how the garden has and will transform since September 2007 to the present day!
